Philani Nutrition Centre project

PHILANI NUTRITION CENTERS

Since 1992, under the direction of Dr. Ingrid Le Roux, it was created the Mayebuye Nutrition Rehabilitation Centre, a nutrition center and workshop for young mothers living in the township of Khayelitsha, on the outskirts of Cape Town. This community is-based in the informal settlements and operates of Khayelitsha, Crossroads, and Brown's Farm.  The organisation serves a population of about 1/2 million people, many of whom originally came from the Eastern Cape in search of work and a livelihood in the more economically developed Western Cape. The women who participate in this program have HIV and attend rehabilitation programs in which they are trained to give their children a healthy nutrition and better care.
World in Harmony continues to help periodically to maintain the running costs of the nutrition centres.

SAHETI SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIPS

Two scholarships, of an annual nature, were created by World in Harmony, beginning in the academic year 2004 – 2005, at the “Saheti” School (South african & greek school).

The Saheti School was established in Johannesburg in 1974.  The motto of the Saheti School, KNOW THYSELF, founded in Ancient Greek thought, is the embodiment of its mission.  Modern Greek language, literature, culture, dancing, history and philosophy form an integral part of the curriculum.

We currently maintain a scholarship.

  • ROMA COMMUNITY: Our main goal is to assist the children from the Roma Community and provide them with a sandwich and a juice during their school break at 12th Elementary School of Aspropyrgos, in the outskirts of Athens.
We would like to thank Coca Cola HBC Greece for the donation of 60 juices on a daily basis to the pupils. Since we started distributing these sandwiches and juices, more children are attending class, thus helping in the eradication of illiteracy
